Another record was broken for the Wayne State College women's and men's indoor track & field team during the NSIC Indoor Championships.
According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, the two days of competition concluded on Saturday in Mankato, Minnesota.
The Wayne State College women were led by Junior Lindsey Kneifl who set a new school record in the triple jump to place eighth.
In women's competition, Minnesota State-Mankato captured a fifth straight NSIC women's team title with 254.5 points, well ahead of second place University of Mary with 133.5. Augustana was third at 77.5 points with Sioux Falls fourth (73) and Northern State fifth (53). Winona State took sixth with 37 points followed by Minnesota Duluth (30), Southwest Minnesota State (21), MSU Moorhead (20) and Minot State (18) rounding out the top 10 teams.
Concordia-St. Paul was 11th with 12.5 points with Bemidji State (7) and Wayne State (4) rounding out the team standings.
Kneifl, a graduate of Wisner-Pilger High School, posted a top mark of 37' 8" to set a new school record and earn the eighth-place medal at the NSIC Indoor Championships. The old school record was 37' 6 ½" held by Megan Dias and set during the 2010 season.
Junior thrower Olivia Schwarzrock had the top Wildcat finish Saturday, placing seventh in the shot put with a top heave of 43' 7 ¼".
Freshman Zoey Holmes scored the other point for the Wildcats, taking eighth in the finals of the 600-meter run with a time of 1:39.65.
The Wayne State College men were highlighted by Freshman Emmanuel Badejo who earned All-NSIC honors with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash while seniors Quentin Dreyer and Daniel Elge each medaled in two events. As a team, Wayne State finished ninth place with 25 points.
Minnesota State-Mankato captured a 14th consecutive NSIC men's team title scoring 206.5 points with Augustana second at 89. UMary was third with 79.5 points, just ahead of MSU Moorhead (77) and Northern State (73) to close out the top five teams. Sioux Falls scored 64.5 points to come in sixth, Concordia-St. Paul was seventh at 60, Minnesota Duluth eighth with 48 points and Wayne State ninth with 25 points. Southwest Minnesota State (13.5) and Minot State (4) rounded out the team standings.
Badejo, a freshman from Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, collected All-NSIC honors placing third in the finals of the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.95 seconds.
Dreyer earned two medals for the Wildcats as the senior finished sixth in the 1,000-meter run at 2:32.76 and was seventh in the one-mile run in a time of 4:16.90.
Elge also scored points in two events for the 'Cats, taking sixth in the weight throw on Friday (58' 9 ½") while collecting a seventh-place medal Saturday in the shot put with a toss of 51' 8 ¼".
Junior Daylin Mallory posted a fifth-place finish Saturday in the shot put at 52' 9 ¼" while freshman Mitchell Hupp took sixth in the finals of the 200-meter dash in 21.95 seconds.
The Wildcat 4 x 400-meter relay team of Badejo, Hupp, Alex Leuenberger and Wyatt Nissen closed out scoring for WSC taking seventh in a time of 3:20.84.
