Dirt Devil 10s Red captures third place finish at state, finish season with 40 wins

Competition kept getting better and better throughout the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch 10U State Championships.

From Hastings, Dirt Devil 10s Red found themselves going 3-0 through the first two days of action but ended their season with back-to-back losses on Sunday.

Dirt Devil 10s Red (40-5-1) suffered a 6-0 loss against Voyagers 10U before ending their season with a 5-3 loss with Cavalry 10U Stuhr to earn third place state medals.

Among the five state tournament games, Harper Hanson recorded a team-high eight hits (five singles, two doubles, one triple) and a team-high six RBI with four runs scored while Norah Heithold scored a team-high five runs.

Hanson (245 pitches) appeared in three of the five games (two starts) working 12 innings allowing 10 runs (eight earned) off eight hits while striking out 19 batters, walking 13 and hitting four. MaKenna Williamson (221) appeared in four of the five games (three starts) working 11 and two-thirds allowing 14 runs (eighth earned) off eight hits while striking out 14 batters, walking 11 and hitting one.

In the loss against Voyagers 10U, scoring started in the second inning by Voyagers 10U with a run. Voyagers 10U then scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and one more run in the sixth. Final favored Voyagers 10U winning 6-0 over Dirt Devil 10s Red and won the hit department, 4-3.

Nora Heithold, Abbey Kowalewski and MaKenna Williamson all singled.

Harper Hanson (126 pitches) suffered the loss in five and two-thirds allowing six earned runs off four hits while striking out 10 batters, walking seven and hitting two.

During the loss with Cavalry 10U Stuhr, Cavalry led 3-1 after the first inning and 5-1 following the second inning. Neither team scored in the third before Dirt Devil 10s Red plated two runs in the fourth. Final favored Cavalry 10U Stuhr winning 5-3 over Dirt Devil 10s Red despite being outhit, 6-3.

Hanson singled twice and drove in a run while Ruwe singled and drove in a run.

Zoe Myer singled and scored; MaKenna Williamson and Heithold both singled as Rebecca Fowle and Abbey Kowalewski both scored.

Williamson (58 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing five runs (three earned) off one hit while striking out one batter and walking five. Hanson (33) worked two and a third innings allowing two hits while striking out five batters.

Dirt Devil 10s Red went 20-4 in the month of June.
