Dirt Devil 10s Red hold off late rally from St. Paul Gold, continue 10C Nebraska Fastpitch Tournament

A total of 29 teams began their quest for the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch State Championship with Dirt Devil 10s Red representing Wayne on June 28.

From Hastings, the Dirt Devils began with a first round bye after earning an automatic qualifying spot with their District championship win earlier this season.

On Friday, Dirt Devil 10s Red (38-3-1) won 5-3 over St. Paul Gold in the second round.

The Dirt Devils began with three runs in the first and two more runs in the second to lead 5-0. Following a scoreless third, St. Paul Gold rallied with two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth. Final favored Dirt Devil 10s Red winning 5-3 and winning the hit department, 7-2.

Harper Hanson singled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored while Nora Heithold singled twice and scored twice.

Abbey Kowalewski singled and scored; Zoe Myer singled and drove in a run; Izzy Ruwe singled as Rebecca Fowle scored.

MaKenna Williamson (83 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing three runs (two earned) off two hits while striking out seven batters, walking three and hitting one.

Dirt Devil 10s Red were to face Cavalry Stuhr 10U on Saturday, June 29. Teams are guaranteed at least three games in the state bracket.

The Dirt Devil 18s (10-8) will return to the diamond for the first time since June 15 when they competed in the Class B 18U State Tournament in Hastings. The Dirt Devils were to open the Zoom in’ Thru June York Tournament in the 18U-A Division with pool games starting on Saturday, June 29.

The Dirt Devil 14s (16-12) were to open the Zoom in’ Thru June York Tournament on Saturday, June 29.
