Weekend softball continued a busy stretch of 10 games in seven days.
From Cardinal Field in Liberty, Missouri, the Wildcats opened a four-game road series at William Jewell College on Saturday.
In a low scoring doubleheader, Wayne State College suffered losses of 2-1 and 1-0 to William Jewell College. WSC fell to 7-5 as the Cardinals improved to 8-8.
In game one, neither team scored the opening two innings until Wayne State College brought a run in during the third inning. Sophomore Jordyn Klein tripled and drove in senior Hayley Murphy.
Following a scoreless fourth, William Jewell College plated two runs in the home half of the fifth.
Final favored William Jewell College winning 2-1 and outhitting WSC, 6-2 while committing zero errors compared to one by the Wildcats.
Klein tripled and drove in a run as Murphy singled and scored.
Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (107 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in six innings allowing two earned runs off six hits while striking out 12 batters and walking two.
During the second outing, no runs were allowed the opening five and a half innings. The host Cardinals plated a single run in the bottom of the sixth and held onto the 1-0 win despite Wayne State College winning the hit department, 4-3 and not committing an error compared to one by William Jewell College.
Freshman Leah Chance singled twice while Klein and sophomore Emilee Marth both singled.
Senior Samantha Felt (14 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning of relief allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out one batter. Senior Grace Lucka (73) started the opening five innings allowing two hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.
