Needs increasing, some shelves empty at Wayne Food Pantry

With no one specific reason to list, the number of people using the Wayne Food Pantry in recent months has been growing.

"For some people, it might be higher food prices, for others, it might be the need to choose between paying for medication or groceries and for others, it might be the cost increase in other items in the budget such as insurance," said Jenny Hammer, who coordinates the Food Pantry.

The Food Pantry is located at the First Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Third and Lincoln Streets. It is open from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Friday.

Those wishing to make donations, either food or monetary, may do so during this time.

On the list of most needed items a this time are:

•Cereal;

•"Helper" Mixes (Hamburger, Tuna, Chicken);

•Peanut Butter;

•Jelly;

•Soup (Chunky and/or condensed);

•Saltine Crackers;

•Canned Tuna;

•Applesauce;

•Pancake Mix;

•Pancake Syrup.

Guidelines for using the Wayne Food Pantry include:

•You must be a Wayne County resident.

•You must have a photo ID.

•You will need to provide us with basic information for record keeping (name, address, etc.)

•You may receive food up to three times per year.
