Wayne State Theatre program presenting 'Eurydice' Oct. 3-6

Two worlds unravel in the timeless love story, “Eurydice,” presented by the Wayne State College Theatre Program Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 3-6, in the Black Box Theatre, located in the Lied Performing Arts Annex of the Peterson Fine Arts Building.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 per person, with free admission for Wayne State students, faculty, and staff. Tickets are available at the door, with no reserved seats. Seating is limited.

Written by Sarah Ruhl, “Eurydice” recounts the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice from the heroine’s perspective. The plot weaves Eurydice’s untimely death on her wedding day with her longing for her dead father, the yearning of separated lovers, and the desire to soothe suffering. Laced with love, sacrifice, and hope, the tragedy is sewn together by the power of language. “Eurydice” runs about 90 minutes. “Eurydice” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

“Eurydice” is directed by Rusty Ruth, associate professor of theatre at Wayne State. Brian Begley, associate professor of theatre at Wayne State, serves as technical director and scenic/lighting designer. Mollie Young, adjunct professor of theatre at Wayne State, is intimacy director. Madison Dvorak, Grand Island, is stage manager, with Victoria Harrington, Omaha, and Kore Quimby, Ralston, serving as assistant stage managers.

Mariah Pleskac, Missouri Valley, Iowa, is costume designer and Anna Kruger, Wayne, is costume shop manager. Katie Stodieck, Schuyler, is makeup design coordinator and costume assistant. Additional costume assistants include Astria Smith, Omaha; Anna Wells, Ceresco; and Claire Jensen, Winside. Prop management will be handled by Kyle Hubbell, Le Mars, Iowa.
