Wakefield volleyball invite day one results

It was a busy Thursday evening with eight total matches played among the eight teams participating in the Wakefield Volleyball Invite.

From the main and auxiliary gyms in Wakefield, Thursday pool play competition showcased several northeast Nebraska volleyball programs.

The host Trojans suffered losses against Tekamah-Herman in three sets (25-20, 24-26, 21-25) and also were swept by Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (19-25, 19-25). Wakefield is now 3-7 on the season.

In loss against Tekamah-Herman, senior Alli Brown posted a team-high 10 kills to go along with seven digs and one block while double-doubles came from sophomores Boston Brown (five kills/two blocks) with 13 assists and 10 digs as Montserratt Avila (five kills/two blocks) had 10 assists and 10 digs. Junior Ashlyn Riewer (one kill) led Wakefield in digs with 14.

Junior Sierra Kaufman added five kills, three blocks and one dig; junior Gracyn Keagle tacked on two kills, three digs and two blocks as freshman Rihanna Rivera tallied one kill and three digs. Other digs came from senior Isabella Andrade (six).

Alli Brown had three services aces, Andrade and Avila both added two aces as Boston Brown had an ace.

From the LCC victory over Wakefield, the Bears were led by sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 10 kills and two digs; sophomore Carlie Kvols posted 20 assists, four digs, one kill and one block as senior Tali Erwin led the team in digs with eight to go along with five kills.

Senior Lainey Schutte (four digs/two blocks) and sophomore Kaida Eriksen (six digs) both tallied two kills. Other digs came from senior Baylie Graf with four digs as junior Tyler Recob (one block) added two digs.

Rasmussen and Erwin both had two service aces as Kvols and Eriksen both added an ace.

Wakefield leaders were Alli Brown with five kills, eight digs and two blocks; Boston Brown recorded seven assists, four digs, three kills and two blocks as Riewer tied for the team lead in digs with eight.

Avila followed with four kills and three digs; Keagle had three kills, three blocks (one solo) and one dig as Andrade tacked on one kill and three digs.

Boston Brown, Alli Brown and Riewer all recorded a service ace.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge also swept against Lutheran High Northeast in the match prior (25-13, 25-17) to go 2-0 on the day. The Bears are now 7-1 on the season.

In the LCC victory over the Eagles, Rasmussen produced nine kills, five digs and one solo block; Kvols posted a team-high 21 assists to go along with three digs and a block as Erwin led the team in digs with eight and also had eight kills.

Eriksen tallied six kills, three digs and a solo block; Schutte had a block and six digs as other digs came from Recob (six) and Graf (two).

Eriksen recorded two service aces as Erwin and Recob both had an ace.

The other Pool A match in the main gym favored Tekamah-Herman in three sets over Lutheran High Northeast (25-21, 22-25, 25-21).
