Wildcat women take fourth during battle at Bayside, Johnson leads ‘Cats'

Two rounds of 18 holes are in the books for Wayne State College women’s golf following a busy two-day stretch in western Nebraska.

From the Bayside Golf Club in Brule, the Wildcats joined seven other teams during the Bayside Women’s Golf Invite on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9 – 10.

WSC dropped two spots after day one to finish fourth overall after firing rounds of 321 on Monday and 329 on Tuesday to total 650.

Nebraska-Kearney A held onto the team lead to win the invite with rounds of 314 and 310 to total 624 and won the meet by nearly 20 shots (Northwest Missouri State followed with a 640).

Individually, Wayne State College was led by Camryn Johnson with rounds of 77 and 80 to tie for sixth (157).

Abbigail Brodersen finished 14th with a 164 (80/84) as Hailey Kenkel (83/82) and Erica Lee (82/83) both tied for 15th with a 165.

Other Wildcat results came from Meg Thompson tied for 25th with a 170 (86/84), Saffire Sayre tied for 29th with a 172 (82/90) and Kylie Powers tied for 44th with a 195 (92/103).

Calie Dockter from UNK B (74/77) and Madilyne Schlaepfer from Northwest Missouri State (78/73) tied for first both shooting a 151 two-day score.

PAR was 71.

The Wayne State College women’s golf team will next compete on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 – 17 during the Maverick/Golden Bear Fall Brawl in Hudson, Wisconsin (Troy Burne Golf Club).
