Dirt Devil 10s Red Post 3-0 record; 10s Black eliminated; Dirt Devil 12s Tournament moved to one-day series

A trio of Dirt Devil softball teams were set to compete in two different Logan Valley League tournaments on June 22.

The Dirt Devil 12s were unable to play any games in Tekamah due to the weather while Dirt Devil 10s Red and 10s Black were in Fremont.

In Tekamah, the Dirt Devil 12s (13-11) will now open their Logan Valley League Tournament schedule on Sunday at 11 a.m. against Arlington. This will now be a single elimination tournament. The winner will face either West Point Yellow or Logan View at 2 p.m.

From Fremont, #1 Dirt Devil 10s Red (35-3-1) earned a first round bye before winning 10-2 against #17 Yutan – Thiessen; 9-1 over #9 Golden Girls – Nelson and 7-4 against #13 Arlington 10U Black Saturday afternoon.

In the opening victory, Dirt Devil 10s Red led 5-1 after the first inning before Yutan answered with a run in the second. The Dirt Devils added five more runs in the third to win 10-2 and win the hit department, 5-1.

Zoe Myer doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while MaKenna Williamson singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.

Izzy Ruwe singled and scored twice; Nora Heithold singled and scored; Harper Hanson scored twice as Rebecca Fowle scored.

Williamson (88 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out eight batters, walking seven and hitting one.

During the second win, Dirt Devil 10s Red led 2-1 after the first inning before following with five runs in the second and two runs in the third. Final favored the Dirt Devils winning 9-1 and outhitting the Golden Girls, 5-0.

Ruwe doubled and scored twice while Heithold and Hanson both singled, drove in two runs and scored.

Myer singled, drove in a run and scored; Kenslee Holz singled and drove in a run; Williamson accounted for a RBI and run scored; Kiersten Allen scored twice as Abbey Kowaleski scored.

Hanson (74 pitches) picked up the complete game victory allowing one run while striking out 10 batters and walking five.

From the third win of the day, Dirt Devil 10s scored a run in the first inning before Arlington 10U Black took a 3-2 lead after the second inning. The Dirt Devils would then tie the game up with a run in the third and then regain the lead 4-3 with another run in the fourth. Arlington would again tie the game up at 4-4 in the top of the fifth while Dirt Devil 10s Black posted a three-run home half of the fifth to win 7-4 and outhit Arlington, 13-1.

Myer singled three times, drove in two runs and scored twice; Kowalewski singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored; Hanson singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice as Fowle singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Allen singled, drove in a run and scored; Holz singled and drove in a run as Heithold and Williamson both singled.

Hanson (eight pitches) picked up the win in an inning striking out three batters. Williamson (78) worked four innings allowing four earned runs off one hit while striking out six batters and walking four.

Also in Fremont, #14 Dirt Devil 10s Black (6-26) suffered back-to-back losses of 9-6 against #3 Logan View 10U and 7-6 to #11 West Point White 10U.

In the opening loss, Logan View led 5-2 after the first inning before using a 4-3 advantage in the second to lead 9-5. Dirt Devil 10s Black scored once more in the third as final favored Logan View winning 9-6 and winning the hit department, 9-0.

Caroline Endicott accounted for a RBI while Isabella Lawyer scored twice.

Lennox Smith, KayLee Nelson, Brynlee Suhr and Meleah Larson all scored.

Suhr (63 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in an inning allowing nine earned runs off nine hits while walking four batters and hitting one.

During the elimination game, West Point White 10U scored a run in the first inning before outscoring Dirt Devil 10s Black, 3-1 in the third to lead 4-1. After the Dirt Devils took a 6-4 lead thanks to a five-run top of the fourth, West Point White 10U answered with three runs to win 7-6 despite being outhit, 6-1.

Delilah Lueth doubled and drove in a run while Suhr singled twice and scored.

Charli Sears singled, drove in a run and scored; Bella Brandow singled and scored twice; Smith singled and drove in a run; Larson accounted for two RBI as Nelson and Lawyer both scored.

Lueth (64 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning allowing six earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter, walking eight and hitting four. Suhr (43) worked two innings allowing an earned run while striking out and walking four batters each.
