President and Wayne girl are birthday buddies

When a manilla envelope adressed to Erin Peck of 502 Hillcrest Rd. arrived in the mail last week, the return address said simply, "The White House."

Erin's mother, Vicki recieved the mail and rushed the envelope to St. Mary's Catholic School of Wayne, hand delivering it to her daughter. The second-grader opened her mail, discovering a letter from President Ronald Reagan and a booklet entitled, "Welcome to the White House."

At the bottom of the short letter, in black ink is what appears to be an authenitic signature of the president.

Erin said she was excited to recieve a letter from the president and even more excited when she saw his signature.

The letter is the president's reply to a note that Erin sent him in early February. Erin and Reagan have something in common-both born on February 6.

The eight year old learned in school last year that her birthday is the same day as Reagan's so this year she sent him a birthday card and a note. In the note, Erin told the president about her birthday. She also enclosed a school picture of herself.

Reagan's reply, which was dated March 24 was recieved in the mail last Monday. In the letter, the president stated,

"Dear Erin: My birthday celebration was brightened by the knowledge that you and I share the same special day on Feb. 6. Happy birthday."

Several other sentences were included in the letter from the former movie star, who was born in 1911.

Erin said she hoped the president would send a reply to her letter. Now, she plans to continue sending the president a birthday card each year.

"It feels special to have a birthday the same day as the presdent. I like it."
