Wayne Schools Get 37 Music Honors as Hahn Ends Career

Hahn High School musicians last week made their final appearance in the District III music contest representing Hahn, and they finished famously.

They earned 19 superior ratings in solo and group performances.
Only Wausa, with 20 superiors, did better. Laurel also received 19 superiors and Wayne City High 18.

Hahn's band, orchestra and mixed chorus all ranked superior. The
Wayne City orchestra, mixed chorus and girls glee club were superior, and its band rated excellent (the second highest award).

Hahn's senior and junior high grades will be discontinued at the
end of this school year, and most of the pupils will go to the city school next fall.

Other superior ratings awarded Hahn musicians were to Jayne
Hughes, girls high voice; Jean Eynon, girls low voice; Jim Grein,
boys high voice; John Barr, boys low voice; Pamela Hughes, tympani; Harry Kelton, organ; Jane Schram, tenor saxophone; Ken Headlee, trumpet; Ann Marie Hasebrook, violin; trombone ensemble, mixed quartet, vocal ensemble, trumpet ensemble, girls vocal trio, violin duet, and the flute quartet.

Wayne High's other superior ratings went to Marilyn Nuernberger, girls high voice; Sandra Joy Nelson, girls medium voice; Donna Echtenkamp, girls low voice; Don Larson, boys medium voice; Charlene Wendel, piano; Colleen Wendel, baritone saxophone; Judy Simmer, bassoon; Nancy DeFreese, flute; Roger Lueders, cornet; girls vocal trio, mixed quartet, madrigal singers, woodwind trio, woodwind choir, and trumpet ensemble.

Bands from Laurel, Allen, and Wakefield rated excellent. Pilger's
band rated good (the third highest award).

A record number of about 3,300 musicians fromo 39 schools took part in the contest, held annually on the Wayne State campus.
