Orville Ernest Broekemeier, 87, of Norfolk, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan.14, 2025.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoskins with Rev. Rodney Rixe officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan.19, from 2-5 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoskins. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 16, V.F.W. Post 1644, of Norfolk and the United States Army Honor Guard.

Orville was born Sept. 26, 1937 in Osmond to Emil and Esther Broekemeier. He was baptized into the Christian faith on Nov.14, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. He confirmed his faith through confirmation on April 2, 1950. Orville graduated from Osmond High School in 1954. On June 22, 1957 he married the love of his life, Kathleen Behrens in Plainview. They spent over 67 years together. To this union four children were born, Thomas, Elizabeth, Joel, and Daniel.
Orville was a farmer for many years. He worked on the family farm until 1965. He then worked at Larson Farms of Tilden and Marotz Farms of Hoskins. After retiring from farming, Orville worked for Gillette Dairy and Highland Roberts of Norfolk.
Orville was an avid hunter and fisherman. His grandsons could share many stories of hunting and fishing with Grandpa. Orville also loved music. He was a part of the church choir for many years and sang at many weddings, funerals, and family events.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; sons, Thomas of Norfolk, Joel (Kimberly) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Daniel (Michele) of Columbus; daughter, Elizabeth(Gene) Grosc of Columbus; grandchildren - Nathan Broekemeier, Maria Broekemeier, Christopher (Melissa) Grosc, Amy (Jeff) Sadler, Jessica (Josh) Loontjer, Heath (Katie) Broekemeier, Tyler (Brooke) Broekemeier, Sara (Eric) Rosenbaum), Justin ( Mikayla) Broekemeier, Joshua Broekemeier, and Caitlin (Christian) Hall; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Margaret) Broekemeier; sisters, Barbara (Marvin) Theis, Rosy Jenkins, and Judy (Gary) Acklie, as well as many nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Bubble Gum; plus all the other special people that Mom and Dad called family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Esther Broekemeier; brothers, Jerry, Don, Glenn, Byron; sisters, Phylis and Marion and daughter-in-law, Betsy Broekemeier.
