Junior High sports for Wayne seventh and eighth graders are in full swing on the field and in the gym.

A trio of road football games are in the books for the Wayne Junior High football teams.

Wayne began the season at O’Neill on Sept. 5 followed by road outings against West Point-Beemer on Sept. 10 and Norfolk Catholic on Sept. 17.

To open the season, Wayne Junior High seventh grade lost 16-8 at O’Neill as the Wayne eighth graders suffered a 14-0 defeat. A highlight included a two-yard rushing touchdown from Hudson Willrich followed by a successful passing two-point conversion between Willrich and Mason Wendte.

Last Tuesday, Wayne A suffered a 20-0 loss at West Point-Beemer while Wayne B picked up an 18-6 win. Joshua Carrillo had a kickoff return for a touchdown for Wayne Junior High.

No scores were posted from the games at Norfolk Catholic.

The Wayne Junior High football team will next host Cedar Catholic on Tuesday, Sept. 24 starting at 5 p.m. from Kern Track in Wayne. Other home outings to close out the year include vs. Pierce on Oct. 8 and hosting Battle Creek on Oct. 15.

Moving to the gymnasium, home volleyball matches have been steady for Wayne Junior High hosting Cedar Catholic on Sept. 10 and welcoming Pierce earlier this week on Monday.

From the season opening matches, Wayne won all three matches over Cedar Catholic. Scores favored Wayne A (25-7, 25-18), Wayne B (25-14, 14-25, 15-11) and Wayne C (25-11, 25-15).

In the matches against Pierce on Sept. 17, Wayne Junior High A suffered a 2-1 loss (22-25, 25-17, 14-16); Wayne B also lost in three sets (25-15, 7-25, 13-15) while Wayne C won in three sets (21-25, 25-10, 18-16).

The next matches for Wayne Junior High volleyball will be on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Wayne seventh and eighth graders will also play on Oct. 1 and Oct. 3 with more matches to be played through Oct. 17.
