The Laurel 14U softball team competed in the District Softball tournament in Battle Creek on June 8-9. Laurel faced Battle Creek in their first game and lost 7-12. They made a comeback in the second game, beating Ponca in the loser's bracket with a score of 13-0. They then were set to play Creighton the following day. Laurel defeated Creighton 10-1. The Bears continued to fight their way back through the loser's bracket and were able to get a win over Crofton. They finished with a score of 6-2. This earned their shot for the championship game against the Norfolk Golden Girls. The game was a defensive battle that left the Bears short by one point leaving the score 0-1. The Bears great play earned them a spot in the Class D State Tournament that will take place July 12-14 in Hastings.
The Laurel 8U baseball team played in the league tournament at Osmond Saturday, defeating Osmond 12-5; Plainview 8-2; and Creighton 13-8. For the championship game they played Creighton again with Laurel tying the game in the fifth to send it into extra innings. The boys won the game 16-15 in the sixth inning to finish the season 10-1-1
